What a heart-breaking story. This older boy is covered in scars and bare patches, and appears to be completely blind in one eye and losing sight in the other. We think he may have been used as a bait dog, but we just don’t know. Will you help him live out what is left of his life in comfort? After all he has been through, we hate to think his final days will be in the shelter.

Please remember the “FINAL DATE” is contingent upon the animal staying healthy. If they contract ANY ILLNESS they will be euthanized! HELP GET THEM OUT SOON!

PLEASE NOTE: Additional vetting may be available, up to and including spay/neuter surgery, core vaccines, combo or heartworm testing, nail trimming, micro-chipping and basic deworming.

For more information on how you can save this life, please email info@heartofthemidlands.org. Be sure to include the animal’s ID number and the name of your rescue group so we can provide you with accurate information

    • Can you contact them with the number provided to see if there is a foster that can hold him until then? I am sure they will also want to talk to you anyway. His time is short. Please call them.

    • Tracy, this dog needed a committment by 8 am this morning. I am not sure if he is still alive. Did you contact anyone from HEART to see if they could find someone to temp foster ?

      • Hello,

I received an email regarding this dog this morning – in fact – two of them – confirming that a Rescue had stepped up and that he had a foster home – your comments are concerning – so, I called them – no answer – left a message — and will email to confirm that what they sent to me this morning is still true.

However, I would encourage you all to call as well – the more voices the better.

        Thank you.

  1. I’ve shared his post on my facebook pages. Hoping somebody who subscribes will either take him or know someone who can. This breaks my heart. Being in Australia really kills me sometimes.

    • Thank you so much. I really appreciate your efforts, and it is very nice to know that we are surrounded by MORE good people than bad. But, keep sharing it…. I do believe that someone will step up, and help him; they just have to see him to know he’s out there in order to do that..:)

      Take care.

  3. Please advise status of this dog ? I understand from Heart he needed a rescue committment by 8 am this morning.

    • Christine, I received an email from them this morning telling me that they had a rescue for him, and that he was all set. Your comment here has led me to be somewhat concerned that something may have fallen through – which can happen – so I called and left a message for them and will email them as well. I’d encourage you to do the same..to make sure he’s ok.

  4. UPDATE: DOG NEEDS TRANSPORT FROM SOUTH CAROLINA TO VIRGINIA TOMORROW — NEEDS TRANSPORT — CAN ANYONE HELP? HE IS GOING FROM THE KILL SHELTER TO BOARDING FOR A DAY – THEN HE NEEDS TO BE DELIVERED TO: SILVA —– 540-907-8890 ——————- 17627 SURROGATE RIDER DRIVER, VIRGINIA, 23015….PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU CAN HELP WITH HIS TRANSPORT…IT IS MOST URGENT

      • Hi, Christine,

I am in contact with a volunteer transport group – Kindred — they are on face book – we are working on getting him moved —

Also, I spoke with the rep for him, and they are making arrangements to move him themselves. They are just working on the details as to where: their office? The vets office, or boarding. So, he is not going to be left there to die, but, what is needed is transportation.

Anyone who can help will be appreciated dearly and forever.

        Thanks.

    • I bet Kindred Hearts Transport would LOVE to help with this one….you can find them on FB….I’m going to post this site to their page and see if they will contact about transport….KHT is made up of volunteers from all over the U.S. and Canada….hopefully, they will help….

  6. Hello

I leave in texas do its a tad far to go get him but i can help with a donation for proper boarding and to start grtting him health and better. Please let me know if this will help. He deserves a good home. Please let me know.

  7. Things are not looking good for this sweet dog. The RESCUE has fallen through and there is no transportation. I am feeling pretty sad for this poor dog… I hope someone will step up and help before his time runs out.

    • I called just now. Live in CO. Person I talked to would not let me take him, said rescue only. Didn’t seem to know or care much. Very sad.

  8. http://kindredheartstransportconnection.org/request-transport/

this is the link to request transport thru them….not sure of your affiliation but if a foster can be found, he needs to be pulled by the rescue and into a foster home for about two weeks, usually, get a health cert, and then KHT will do the transport for this pup….you might also try the S Carolina https://www.facebook.com/groups/138370232933031/ and Virginia https://www.facebook.com/groups/316742535005875/ transport pages….I wish I could be of more help….

      • I live in SC about 30 minutes from Columbia and called HEART yesterday. I got the answering machine and left a message with call back numbers and never received a call back. Is this boy still at HEART?

      • Yes, he is still there. They are swamped…email them and call them…I just got word back from them now…via email.

        And thanks…

        I’ll forward your email…

  9. Ladies and gentleman of all locations who have expressed concern about this dog. He has officially gone to a Rescue…from there….he will need a home, but, right now…a Rescue as he transitions into better living conditions with hope at the end of his rainbow. So, my dears, thank you one and all for being so amazingly awesome! I only ask that you keep doing what you are have been doing: helping animals when and where you can. Take care.

    • Thank you too WInddrinker ! These activities need to come to an abrupt halt in the Carolinas, unforuntaly, it doesn’t seem like this will happen any time too soon here. Btw, if Almost Home is serious about adopting this boy, we can put her in touch with the rescue if you have access to her contact information to follow up. They are very understaffed right now at Heart, and they always interested to do the most they can to save lives. Let me know if we can assist further. Thanks Christine Whiskers

  10. We live in Magnolia Texas. If transportation can be arranged, we will give him a forever home. We had 3 dogs we raised from puppies to 14, 16 and 17 years old and know how much love a senior dog gives and needs. We currently have a female mixed breed a few months shy of her 2nd birthday. She is very friendly, but hasn’t been around dogs since we got her when she was about 2-3 months old. But she was very good with our cat 12 year old cat. When he suddenly got sick earlier this year, she stayed around him as kind of a nurse and companion. When we had to put him to sleep, she became very sad. We know she would welcome him and he would have a loving forever home with us.

  11. Here is the update Belinda:

    HE IS DEAD, DEAD, DEAD.

An ignorant vet tech put her face in his face while vaccinating him. He clearly can’t see and was startled, so he bit her. The vet then put him down.

  12. The point of updating this on your blog, is so that any people here, like the person in Texas, who may have been interested in helping or adopting, would have access to this information Belinda. When an animal leaves a facility like Heart, they have no access to further updates regarding this animal’s well being or status, as it legally is turned over to someone else. I am not even sure if Heart knows the dog is no longer alive. Thank you for all you did crossposting, to try to help save this poor dog.

    • My heart physically hurts, poor poor boy. After all he.s been through. What a bloody stupid thing to do, hope they are proud , they should have known better. Fly high sweetie, you are probably in a much better place now
