SPECIAL NEEDS DOXIE NEEDS NEW HOME! AT RISK OF EUTH! NORTH OF JAX (HILLIARD, FL), BIO FROM OWNER:
We adopted Jewel, a brown short-haired female spayed Dachshund, from the Nassau County Animal Control, on July 31, 2008. She had been found abandoned on the side of the road and brought to the shelter on June 23, 2008. She was flea infested and only weighed 8.4 pounds. Her estimated age was in the 2-3 year range.
On July 25, 2012, Jewel went down in the back and had emergency surgery. The surgery was not successful, but we were encouraged she would improved with time. We had 2 other Dachshunds that had similar surgery in the past and eventually recovered. Jewel has not improved and is paralyzed in the hind quarter. She does not have control of her bowels or bladder and must be confined to a small crate and frequently cleaned.
About 2 weeks after Jewel’s surgery, my wife fell and broke shoulder. She was diagnosed with osteoporosis. She has COPD, serious back problems and other medical issues that makes her unable to do the physical attention that Jewel requires. My health has deteriorated as well, making a bad situation worse.
We have no one to assist us in Jewel’s care and would appreciated any assistance you could provide in finding Jewel a loving new home.
